NRF scholarships available

The National Research Foundation (NRF) has announced the NRF Free-standing, Innovation and Scarce Skills Masters and Doctoral Scholarship Call for applications for awards in 2015.

The internal deadline for applications is 4 August 2014.

Applicants must apply online at and follow the application procedure set out in the call documents and funding manual.

NRF Free-standing Masters and Doctoral Scholarships Call for 2015

The programme supports full-time students at South African public higher education institutions (HEIs), science councils and national research facilities. The scholarship is intended to support masters and doctoral candidates who would like to pursue research studies in all areas of Science, Engineering and Technology (SET) and in Social Sciences and Humanities, at public research institutions in South Africa. A small number of scholarships are made available to students pursuing doctoral studies abroad. The percentage of supported students will be 80% from the Science, Engineering and Technology disciplines and 20 % Social Sciences and Humanities.

Innovation Masters and Doctoral Scholarships Call for 2015

The programme supports South African citizens and permanent residents registered on a full-time basis at public higher education institutions (HEIs). The Innovation programme supports students who wish to pursue their studies in the fields listed below: Biotechnology, Cellular and Molecular Biology, Engineering, Computer science, Physics, Astronomy, Mathematical Sciences, Nanotechnology, Chemistry, Earth Science, Ecology and Medical sciences. Students studying Social Sciences and Humanities are also supported.
