Mathematics for Radar and Electronic Protection: Class Photograph 2016

8 Apr 2016 - 11:15

Today was the last day of our third course of 2016, Mathematics for Radar and Electronic Protection (2016), which is one of the core courses of the Radar Masters programme. It ran from 14 to 18 March 2016 and was presented by Dr Pieter Uys.

Dr Pieter Uys is a Senior Scholar in the Department of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics, University of Cape Town, having been a Senior Lecturer in that department from 2003 until 2013. After receiving his PhD from the University of Natal in 1986, he was a Senior Lecturer in Mathematics and Applied Mathematics there until 1999. In 2002, he graduated with a Diploma in Epidemiological Modelling from the London School of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene. Since 2008, he has been a Senior Research Fellow at the DST/NRF Centre of Excellence for Epidemiological Modelling and Analysis (SACEMA), Stellenbosch University.

This course provided a useful mathematical toolkit for the Radar and Electronic Defence Engineer. Emphasis was on practical calculation and useful ‘tricks of the trade’ rather than mathematical rigour.
